Valentines Wedding @ The Lodge at Giants Ridge

February 20, 2014 by Aaron

This story is just too cool!  I DJ’ed a wedding for Mike & Tracy on Valentines day last week (it was a Friday).  The wedding reception took place at The Lodge at Giants Ridge up in Biwabik MN, so it was a little bit of a hike to get up there.  They had their ceremony out at Palisade Head north of Two Harbors on the shore of Lake Superior, and they rode snowmobiles out to the head for the ceremony.

When everyone arrived at the Lodge for the reception, we had a most excellent dinner (I seriously love DJing at The Lodge, the food there is amazing, and they have great staff!).  And then the party started, and everyone danced the night away.  We danced until 1AM!

But the part of the evening that I find the most amazing is that the Groom legally changed his last name to “Valentine”.  And so when they got married, they became Mr. and Mrs. Valentine, married on Valentines Day!

Anyways, check out the my gig log from the event!

[Video Log] Pinstripes Edina Wedding DJ

December 22, 2013 by Aaron

I had the honor to be the Master of Ceremonies and DJ for Meg & Cole’s Christmas wedding at Pinstripes in Edina MN.  This was my first time working with Pinstripes, and I must say, the staff & facility were excellent!   Check out the video…

Ben & Katie’s Wedding – Dellwood Hills Country Club

November 29, 2013 by Aaron

Black Friday!  While most of America was up early shopping for deals, I was traveling down to Dellwood MN, a nice suburb on the north side of the Twin Cities to DJ Ben & Katie’s wedding.  The Dellwood Hills Country Club is a very nice venue, and I enjoyed working with the staff there to make the event a success.  We did the ceremony, and afterwards there was a receiving line/cocktail hour in an adjacent room while the staff reset the main room for “dinner”.  There wasn’t really dinner, rather an extended cocktail hour with hors d’oeuvres.  But after an hour or so we kicked off the dance floor and partied it up.

I had met with Ben & Katie in person the week before to go over the details for their big day, and this was a very fun couple.  They are blessed with great friends and family, and I was honored to play a role in making sure their day turned out the way they wanted it to, with lots of energy and excitement, and everyone having a blast.

Guy & Janet’s Wedding – Holiday Inn Willmar MN

November 2, 2013 by Aaron

DJ Julian and I made the trek from Duluth to Willmar MN, a 4.5 hour drive, to DJ and MC Guy & Janet’s wedding at the Holiday Inn Hotel.  We actually did sound for the ceremony beforehand at a Church about 30 minutes away in Cosmos MN, and then made it back to the Holiday Inn for the reception.

The room looked spectacular before we arrived, and with our purple uplights we made the room look even more amazing.  The whole night was a non-stop blast as we danced the night away after an awesome dinner.  But before we got to the dancing, we did a Love Story for Janet & Guy.  Many people commented on how they hadn’t ever been to a wedding that had a love story before, and they really enjoyed it.  Then during the spotlight dances, I had a custom recording where Janet (the Bride) recorded a special message to her Dad for the Father/Daughter dance.  Once the dance floor opened up,  the crowd wanted an interesting mix of both country music and pop/dance music, and I happily played guest requests all night long.  The dance floor was constantly packed!

After we ended the night and got everything packed up, we drove back to Duluth.  This happened to be daylight savings weekend, so we gained an hour on the drive back, thankfully giving us an extra hour to sleep in once we were home.

Jessica & James’ Wedding – St. Cloud Country Club

October 26, 2013 by Aaron

This was a very fun wedding, I did the sound for the ceremony on-site and then MC’ed the reception.  It was a smaller wedding, but everyone had a great time.  During the dance one of the Uncles came up to sing an AC/DC song.  I played a bunch of games with everyone and had several of their family members come up and tell me that they had never been to a wedding with an MC, or a DJ that was so interactive and fun.  Jessica & James have amazing family and friends and I had a great time being a part of their wedding day.

Mike & Deanna’s Wedding at Barkers Island, Superior WI

October 19, 2013 by Aaron

Wedding #2 of a 2-wedding weekend.  I got home around 3AM, slept for a little bit, and then was back up getting ready for this wedding.

This was my first time DJing at Barkers Island in Superior WI, and it was great!  I had heard a lot of great things about this venue, and the staff here was excellent.  When the wedding party arrived, we kicked off dinner, and the party got started.

Mike & Deanna were wonderful, and I’m glad I was able to help make their wedding reception a huge success.  They have amazing family and friends, and we had a lot of fun.  Including a member of one of their favorite bands being in attendance, who was able to “serenade” them with a couple Metallica songs.  Receptions like this are a blast, and are why I love being a wedding DJ.

Nikki & Jesse’s wedding – Mountain Iron Community Center

October 18, 2013 by Aaron

The first wedding I ever DJ’ed on my own was here at the Mountain Iron Community Center over a year ago, and here I am again, rocking another awesome wedding at the same place!  Nikki & Jesse actually had their ceremony done in the community center, and then we partied it up all night long.  It was a beautiful woodsy & fall / halloween colored reception with lots of orange & brown.

After dinner, everyone danced the night away.  I had many people come up to me to say they wished I had DJ’ed their wedding, or their friends wedding that they recently attended.  It is always flattering to hear those kind of comments, but I just try to make sure that everyone is having a good time.  I kept playing guest requests, played a bunch of games with everyone, and it was awesome!

This was the first wedding of a 2-wedding weekend.  By the time I was done packing up at the end of the night, it was 1:15AM, and I drove the hour and a half back to Duluth so I could get up the next morning and DJ another wedding!

Kayla & Joe’s Wedding – Superior Shores Resort, Two Harbors MN

October 14, 2013 by Aaron

This was an AMAZING wedding!  It was a smaller reception, with only 60-70 guests, and they had the ceremony out on the shore of lake superior.  I always love doing weddings at Superior Shores Resort, the staff there are awesome, and it is normally a very beautiful venue for a wedding ceremony and reception.  I set up the sound system and microphones out by the lakeshore, and everything goes well… 99% of the time.

This time, it was a very windy and chilly october day, but the Bride & Groom are both very outdoorsy and insisted that we still do the ceremony outside by the lakeside.  So that’s what we did!  I threw a garbage bag over the speaker to protect it from the water that was spraying up from the lake, and the officiant trimmed his message so everyone didn’t have to stay out in the wind and cold for too long.  But even with the weather, it was a lovely ceremony, and it was truly a wedding that those guests are never going to forget.  Looking back in 30 years time, Joe & Kayla will be able to tell their children “back in our day, we got married and it was windy, and wet, and cold, but we LOVED it!”

After an amazing dinner, we then danced the night away.  This family was so much fun, and it was really a blessing for me to be able to be a part of their special day.  I told Joe how much I appreciated his service for our country, and even joined everyone upstairs at the resort bar for an after-party drink before heading home.

Peter & Jessi’s Wedding – Settlement Hill Farm, Hudson WI

October 12, 2013 by Aaron

Yay! Another barn wedding!  Having grown up on a farm raising horses, I really like the idea that many of these old barns are being turned into beautiful wedding venues, and Settlement Hill Farm in Hudson WI is no exception.

When I did my client call with Jessi (the Bride) ahead of time to go through the details, I became very excited for this wedding.  It sounded like it was going to be an awesome group of people, and I was not disappointed.  I showed up early to the venue like I normally do, and I was amazed to find that the parents of the Bride had home-brewed over 170 bottles of wine of various varieties.  I wasn’t able to partake in the wine during the reception (I never drink while DJing), but they did send me home with 2 bottles of wine at the end of the night and they were DELICIOUS!

The downstairs dining room of the barn was BEAUTIFUL, and they had some gorgeous woodwork done around the bar, it was a very “rustic chic”.  When we brought the party upstairs to the loft for the dancing, we rocked the house!  I can’t believe we fit that many people into that hayloft of the barn, but everyone was dancing, and partying, and no one wanted to stop at the end of the night.

Tony & Sara’s Wedding at BayView Event Center, Excelsior MN

October 11, 2013 by Aaron

This is my first time at BayView Event Center, and it is an awesome venue, the staff were wonderful and the ceremony down by the docks was beautiful.  Tony & Sara were married on the shore of Lake Minnetonka, and then we had an excellent dinner and this crowd really liked to dance.  Instead of doing a typical garter toss, they opted to do a garter auction, and I was the auctioneer.  We had a bit of fun with that as the sorority sisters and fraternity brothers got into a bidding war against each other for the garter.

I played pretty much non-stop guest requests all night and the crowd was loving it.  The energy on the dance floor carried through until the very end when the lights came on and we had to stop.
