Toils and Joys of the Trade

February 6, 2005 by Aaron

Well, last night at about oh, 10-10:30pm, one of my businesses servers (phoenix) went down. The datacenter techs took a look at it, and it had a failing raid array. Now, normally, this is something that you really don’t want to have happen. Especially not this late at night, since its a 2.5hr drive to the cities.

So my buddy Chris and I sped down to Minneapolis around 11pm, and arrived at US Internet by about 1:30am. Sure enough, the raid array was borked. We tried rebuilding it, and that seemed to fix it, temporarily, but there were some massive inconsistencies. We checked both disks, both had current data on it, but they just varied slightly. So we re-imaged one disk over the other. This took about an hour and a half just for the re-imaging process. Good thing we were able to keep ourselves busy by tweaking our firewall (dagron). Unfortunately, we were still unable to figure out the one glitchy rule that was causing problems with some sites. That will have to wait for another adventure on another day.

Well, the re-imaging completed, but the array was still failing. I guess one of the drives is actually bad. So we re-hashed the setup to run off a single drive, got the system back up, and everything was all hunky-dory by 4am. Well, except for the bad hard drive, that will need to be replaced once I get a chance to order a new pair of 120gb hard drives.

So we clean up the rack, and head home. But first we needed to get gas. We stopped at a holiday station before we arrived at the Datacenter, but it was closed, and their pumps were turned off. I’ve never seen a holiday station that didn’t have at least 24/7 pay at the pump. Luckily, we were able to find another normal gas station (or petrol station as they’re called across the pond) and get fuel for my thirsty car. Our next point of business was to get fuel for our tummys. We found a perkins, but no one appeared to be there. We heard voices in the back of the kitchen, but no one came up to help us, so we decided to find another. The only other perkins we knew how to get to was in Roseville, all the way on the other side of the cities. So we went there, and ate breakfast, and had a pot of coffee.

The ride back was a blur, travelling in a caffeine induced sleepless state. We finally got back to duluth at about 7:30. I went straight to the bathroom because my can of Sierra Mist, plus a pot of coffee, plus a red bull and an amp energy drink were all crying to get out. All of those had been since 11pm when we left my house the night before.

So here I am now, at work (which started at 8am), no sleep, wired on caffeine. I’m probably going to read this post tomorrow and be like “What was I smoking!?!”

Happy Birfday

February 6, 2005 by Aaron

Well, my birthday came and went. It feels kind of surreal to think that I’m already 22. Sometimes I wonder to myself, “Man, where did the time go? It seems just like last week I was 16!” . One of the things I’ve come to realize as I grow older is that people need to cherish each and every moment, because they can never get those moments back. Hindsight is always 20/20.

I was rather suprised that the only person to actually wish me “happy birthday” on my birthday was my friend Jessica. She called and left a message talking about being an “old fart”. Every year I keep expecting a suprise party since I’ve never had one. I think that when people actually try to throw me a suprise party, I’ll have to try hard to act suprised because I expect one for some odd reason. Thats partially the reason why my family forgot my 17th birthday, because I never mentioned it, and no one remembered. I didn’t mention it was coming because I thought their silence meant they were planning a suprise party. Nope, they just plain forgot. Oh well, they’re human after all, and I still love them.

So, I guess this year, my birthday fell on the same day as the Super Bowl, whoop-de-friggin-do. I’m not much of a fan of football, and was more interested in the commercials. And I must say, that this year, the commercials sucked big time. Yeah, the only good ones were the ones about misunderstanding (the broker who was thought to be robbing the convenience store, and the boyfriend who looked like he was going to kill the cat). But nothing beats the commercials from back when it was the Cowboys vs. the Bills for like 5 years straight. Those were hilarious.

All Moved In!

August 23, 2004 by Aaron

Well, I’m all moved into my new house in Duluth.  Now I just need to get insurance, and a washer/dryer.  Pictures are posted in the Photo Gallery.

Since I’m back in duluth, I’ve started work on campus again.  I work with my friend Tony, and we were talking about funny ebay auctions.  Tony came up with the great idea that I should sell my opinion on ebay.  So I am!  The auction is Here so tell all your friends, and post this link around the internet so I can sell my opinion. :)

House Shopping

July 29, 2004 by Aaron

Well, “Operation Find A House” Has begun. I am now actively looking for a house to purchase in Duluth for this next school year.  So if you could keep me in your prayers, that I can get the financing, and that I can find a house in time so that I don’t spend too much time as a ‘homeless college student’ once schol starts.

Sonshine 2004

July 17, 2004 by Aaron

Well, I just got back from Sonshine 2004!  It was awesome!  I saw soo many bands play, but my favorite had to have been Petra.  I’ve been a big Petra fan for a long long time, and this is the first time I’ve seen them live in concert.

Over the weekend, I ended up spending a little too much at Sonshine.  I got about 10 CD’s to help replenish my collection that was stolen a while back.  I got 3 ApologetiX cd’s, 4 Petra cd’s, Reliant K’s new cd, as well as Paul wright’s cd, and the latest from the Supertones.

Over this next week or so, I am going to be updating this site. I’ll be adding a bunch of pics and vids, as well as some other content pages etc.  Well, at least I’m planning on working on this site, whether I actually have time is another thing.

Busy busy busy…

June 13, 2004 by Aaron

Now that I’m getting into the swing of things for the summer, I’m really getting busy.  On my list of current projects, I’m coding a custom inventory system for Granite International, a company in St. Cloud who sells granite and monuments.  As well as putting together an online store for King Roses in Minneapolis so they can sell their roses online.  I also am working on a network of sites call The City Group, which so far consists of thegamecity.com, thelancity.com, themodcity.com, thecheatcity.com and thecarcity.com.  I’m also going to be re-working thegamelan.com, and possibly even giving amishgeek.com a makeover.  I also am putting up a wallpaper site called wallpapered.net.

So these next few weeks will be really busy online, along with working for my mom doing handyman stuff around the duplex still, and interning with youthquake.  Oh, and I’m doing youthquakes website as well.  On top of that, I am a recent addict to this new game called pristontale, which is an Online RPG.  Oh well.. :)

Summertime blues?

June 2, 2004 by Aaron

Well, I’ve been out of school for over a week now, and I’m having trouble adjusting to life back home.  I’m used to the hustle and bustle of life in Duluth.  Its really weird too, because now that I am no longer spending lots of time with my friends, I miss them.  I suppose I kind of took for granted the times I spent with Tony, Koz, Chris, Mark, Katie, Jason, and all the others who I spent time doing things with.  Although, now that school is out here, I’ll be spending more time with YouthQuake working with the youth, so I’m sure that I’ll make new friendships with the kids here and such.

Another weird aspect of being back home, is that I am now finding that I somewhat have idle time where I have nothing to do.  Sure, I could sit on my computer and work on stuff, but I am finding it more difficult to be ambitious enough to do that.  Maybe its because I’m working more physically so I’m wearing myself out.  But I’ve watched a lot of Star Trek TNG, and VH1 lately.  I watched the whole Surviving Nugent 2: Ted Commandments on VH1 last night.  That was a pretty funny reality TV show.  It was about 10 contestants who had to survive living on Ted Nugents ranch and he put them through sort of a boot camp style situations etc.  It was quite entertaining.

Well, off to stare at my screen some more, listen to techno, and think about working on websites.

Done with school!

May 15, 2004 by Aaron

So I’m finally done with school for the semester :)  But it looks like I’ll be re-taking some classes due to the D+, D+ and D. Oh well, I’m just glad to be done with it.  Now I’m getting ready for chapter camp.

I got the details on my online store venture with TekMeds.  I’m going to be an online pharmacy!  My domain is going to be UberMeds.com, its not set up yet, but it will be soon.  Hopefully I’ll be able to get caught up on my bills with this venture, and produce a decent revenue stream for the future.

I’m looking forward to being home for the summer, I’ll be able to spend time with my family, and focus on growing my business.  Hopefully I’ll be able to find time to blog more to amishgeek.com and fill out some more content in the pages.  Maybe I’ll write some tutorials or something silly like that.

For now,

Financial problems…

May 10, 2004 by Aaron

So, right now, I am in a little bit of a financial crisis.  I am currently about 2 months behind on my rent, and I have my car insurance due at the end of the month.  My one checking account is negative, and my other has $20.  So right now I am just praying and putting my trust in God that all of my financial needs will be met.  If people want to help me out, you can use the donate button on the right, or you can refer people to Utaria.net and tell them to sign up for hosting.  If I get more customers, my monthly income will go up, and I will have an easier time paying the bills.

I am also going to be selling several computers that I have to help raise funds for my bills.

Please keep me and my financial situation in your prayers,

Summer is almost here!

May 4, 2004 by Aaron

I am beginning to get sick of school and all the group projects/homework that I have.  I can’t wait till summer, then I get to live at home with my parents (for the first time since high-school, which was 3 years ago).  I’ll be able to focus more time on growing my business and the many other ventures that I have.

Most recently, I just finished putting up the beginning of 123bands.com which is an online community and host for bands, fans and groupies.  I hope to grow this site to become a valuable resource for people who have bands, along with fostering it into a strong online community.

Well, its late, I should go to bed, I should be working on my homework/projects, but meh… who knows what I’ll do?

For now-
~Amish
